- Wrightslaw Newsletter. www.wrightslaw.com. Pete Wright is a prominent Special Education Attorney who has written several books and lectures all over the United States. His weekly newsletter covers a multitude of special education topics from A-Z.
- Special Education Law, 2nd edition. This classic work by Pete Wright provides a comprehensive guide to federal special education laws.
- Your Special Education Rights: What Your School District Isn’t Telling You. Authors Jennifer Laviano and Julie Swanson. This book, written by an attorney and advocate exposes what I call special education’s greatest hits. The average special education administrator falls into one of two categories: They either intentionally mislead/withhold information from parents in the interest of saving their district money OR they are 100% ignorant about how special education law works.
Resources to help you navigate the Special Education Minefield:
- From Emotions to Advocacy. Pam Wright, a social worker and wife of Pete wrote this easy to read and crucial guide for parents and other professionals. My personal copy of this book contains lots of sticky notes, highlighted passages and notes in the margins.
Resources to assist with organization/executive functioning challenges:
- For those of you whose children are dealing with these issues, I recommend the website www.orderoutofchaos.com. However, in recent years she has begun to focus on children with organizational challenges. She is well worth checking out!!
